August has been another busy month with big changes in our life. We have been packing, moving house, unpacking (not finished yet), purchasing new furniture (exciting) and August is also my birth month and this year I am 65!
BE-ing this month for me has been stepping back from taking online Sessions in the Strong Healthy Women Virtual Studio, social media and less important things in life to concentrate on our priority of moving house, family time and looking towards exciting times ahead.
It has been about BE-ing open to change, saying ‘adieu’ and new beginnings.
It has been about BE-ing happy who I am and where I am in life.
Life Changes

I’m not sure I will be moving for some time………
I thought I was fit but moving house is huge even though we had sold our apartment furnished and only had boxes to move. It is amazing how much we accumulate and despite doing a Mary Kondo before we move, as I unpack I’m decluttering even more. We certainly don’t need as much ‘stuff’ so this is a great opportunity to clear the clutter.
Moving home is a big change as well. We have moved from an apartment by the ocean back to Brisbane and into a two-storey townhouse with a small courtyard.
Why move from a lovely home and location?
Some have asked me this question and I did absolutely love our home BUT it was a long drive to see my family and both my husband and I wanted to be back close to them. My grandsons are so happy to have Nan living only a 4 minute drive away, especially as where we live has a pool!
My husband has adjusted very well, but I am a person who tends to become attached to people and places. Whilst I know we have made the right decision, it was still difficult to let go of our apartment and friends on the Coast.
Change is not easy is it? We are pushed out of our comfort zone and even though we had lived in Brisbane for many years, we are still having to have a time of adjustment – no sound of the ocean, no high rise buildings surrounding us. We are in a small townhouse complex of 7 and it is a gated community. We have met a couple of the neighbours but are pleasantly surprised to find it so quiet. Although, I love people, I do value my privacy and quiet time and I think that is how the other residents feel as well.
Another year around the Sun
I’m closing out the month with another year around the Sun. At 65, I feel that there is so much more to enjoy in life and I’m comfortable in my own skin. It is a great feeling and one that really comes with age and wisdom from life experiences.
We celebrated with a lovely lunch hosted by my daughter and son-in-law and it was wonderful to have both my daughter and son and their families together to enjoy some quality time. It was also great that we are all so much closer to each other. Where we lived on the Coast, it would literally be a day to drive, visit and drive home again and with everyone so busy, get-togethers were few and far between.

We have a trip planned to Tasmania in October which I can resume planning now that the move is complete.
Life is good but then life is what you make it, isn’t it?

Congratulations on your move, Sue. A move is so much work, but I know that you will love it there. You are so lucky to be only 4 minutes from your daughter, s-i-l and grandsons…and vice versa. 😀 The photos of your birthday lunch are beautiful. Have fun planning your trip to Tasmania. It is wonderful to be able to travel again. I greatly look forward to those photos.
Thank you lovely Donna for your friendship and support. So much still happening in our life but all good and taking it all slowly to enjoy the moment. xx
Happy new house, happy birthday and all the other happys in between. Moving is hard, but it will be so good for you to be so close to family. So glad you pulled back where you needed to and that there’s something fabulous to look forward to.
Thank you my lovely friend – there are lots of happy wishes in your comment. I’m still feeling the need to pull back and not making any major decisions at the moment. I’ve had quite a few major life events over the last couple of years so I’m just sitting back now and letting life unfold. x
Hi Sue – I’m glad the move is all sorted and you can start relaxing and enjoying the peace at home, and the closeness to family again. It was lovely seeing your birthday pics on FB and to see you celebrating another year under the sun (with many more to come). x
Hi Leanne, still unpacking and settling in but we are having fun selecting new furnishings and being closer to family. xx
Hi Sue. I’m pleased to read that your move went well. I do understand how busy you have been. Our move was two days ago and I’m still surrounded by boxes but getting there. I think it’s wonderful that you will be closer to your family. I agree with what you say -life is what you make it. That’s so true. Good luck for the next phase of your life.
Hi Jennifer, how exciting that you have moved too! It is all happening for us isn’t it? I hope you settle in well and you must be excited to be closer to family. Best wishes to your next adventure in life. xx
Happy birthday and congratulations on your move. Life can get so busy sometimes but you have made changes where necessary to ensure you have time for BE-ing and not just doing. Your family birthday get together looked delicious and fun! Enjoy September!
Thank you Janine for the lovely birthday wishes. It was great to take some time out from unpacking last Sunday to celebrate with my family. xx
Hi Sue, Happy birthday and congratulations on your new home! Your birthday pics are beautiful. Being close to family you love is a smart move. Now you can take time to settle in and resume planning for your trip to Tasmania. I look forward to hearing more about it. I added my August update post to the #2022woty link party. Thank you for hosting. Have a wonderful September!
Thanks Natalie it has been a huge few weeks preparing and moving but being closer to family has made it all worthwhile. Thanks for joining us. xx
Happy Birthday and Congratulations on your new home. No skyscrapers, no noise, being close to family… you couldn’t ask for more. All the best to you. I am also turning 65 in a few days. We’re both Virgos.Yay!
Thank you so much Yvonne. Happy birthday to you and I hope you have a very special day. Enjoy xx
Sue, congratulations on your move. I’m sure it means a lot to be close to your grandchildren at this stage of their lives.
Thank you Suzanne, it has been a busy but exciting time. Family is so important to me and it is wonderful being only 4 minutes away from my grandsons. x
How lovely to read and I trust that you are enjoying the new place. Fitting way to be celebrating 65. Much love, Denyse
Thank you Denyse, life is starting to settle at last. x
Happy birthday, Sue and the big 6-5. Not that 65 is old, you sure make it look young! I remember when I met you and your blog was sizzlin’ toward 60. Been a while but you are still sizzling, my friend! Congrats on your move. Being near family is so important, which is why we moved to Washington. We are not close to our kids as they are scattered but we enjoy the peace and quiet and the extended family we can see each week. One of my university colleagues moved in 2021 like us, and he said “you have to do it while you’re still standing.” Moving, for an uber-fit person like yourself, is taxing both physically and mentally! Enjoy your new place and take good care!
Hello Terri and thank you for your lovely birthday wishes. I know I am a number but I don’t really think in terms of age, more of about how I’m feeling on any given day. I loved watching your house build and hope you have settled in well now. Moving is the right decision for us at the moment, despite living in a beautiful home by the ocean, nothing beats being close to family. xx
Life is what you make it Sue and you are making it wonderful! Congratulations on the move it must be so wonderful not to have to drive so far to see your family and I wish you and Mike all the happiness in the world in your new home. Happy birthday again too, you make getting older so interesting and a pleasure not something to be scared about. Thanks for your positive and honest posts!
You are such an inspiration, Sue! It’s lovely to see your birthday pictures and know you have so much love and support in your life – that’s what you created! Congratulations on your move and all the best for your life there! ♥
Hello Corinne! Lovely to receive your comment and beautiful words. I am indeed surrounded by much love which I am very grateful for. xx
