I was born in Sydney, Australia 59 years ago and now live in Brisbane which is in Queensland. On this Australia Day, 26th January, where we celebrate all things Australian, I wanted to share with you some images and famous songs about our beautiful country from the ‘rugged mountain ranges, to the droughts and flooding rains’.
The poem ‘My Country’ was written in 1904 by Dorothea McKellar and I remember learning it in primary school. I found a copy this poem on YouTube which is set to music and sung by a choir. The music is by Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent, arranged by David Lawrence on youtube and wanted to share with you on this Australia Day, because it highlights the beautiful and rugged country that we call Australia.
I also love ‘I still call Australia Home’ by Peter Allen. It is so stirring and brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it. So please enjoy this adaptation from when Oprah visited Australia.
Finally, another anthem which describes our mutlicultural society. I am, you are, we are Australian.
Happy Australia Day everyone and I hope if you don’t live here that you will visit us one day and enjoy this beautiful land.

There’s nothing to compare with being an Aussie is there Sue? I wouldn’t swap it for the world – can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather live. Happy Australia Day!
No we are pretty special aren’t we Leanne! Hope you had a lovely Australia Day and although I love to travel there is no place like Australia!
Happy Australia Day to you too. Wow. That Oprah video was impressive, made me feel good.
