Each month one of the members selects a topic/prompt and this month it is my turn. I have selected for this month’s ‘Tell Us About prompt and it is ….Blooming!
For my Tell Us About Prompts I am trying to align the prompt with my WOTY – Bloom so for this post, as it was my choice the prompt aligns perfectly.
Anticipating the Bloom: Finding Beauty in the Becoming
A few weeks ago, something exciting happened. I noticed that our orchid was budding and would soon be blooming again! After a long pause, with nothing but green leaves and patience, tiny buds have appeared— little promises of beauty returning.
It hasn’t bloomed for quite some time and I wasn’t sure it would bloom again, I’d almost given up hope and accepted that my thumb is just not green, BUT overnight something magical happened!
And the magic keeps happening. I have counted at least 6 or 7 orchid blooms preparing to open plus another shoot which has several buds and will add more blooms.
When I reflected on the orchid blooming again after a long time being dormant, it made me think about myself. As women over 50, we go through seasons—some vibrant, where we feel in full bloom, confident and radiant. And quieter seasons with times of waiting. Times when growth is happening beneath the surface.
Growth is always happening, even if we don’t see it or feel it.
And then, one day, we do feel it… An inner spark of joy, a sense of possibility, a new beginning or idea taking root.
Like my orchid, we bloom again—in our own time, in our own way.
Sometimes our “buds” show up in small ways—a new idea that excites us, a moment of peace, a step toward something we’ve been meaning to do. A stirring of something more. It may not be a full blossom yet, but, the anticipation is beautiful and exciting.
So this week, I invite you to notice your own “buds.”
- What’s stirring in your heart?
- What are you beginning to feel excited about again?
- What part of you is slowly stretching toward the light?
Let’s honour those moments. Let’s give them time.
Because the full bloom will come—one bud at a time.
Because blooming isn’t about proving anything to the world. It’s about trusting what’s growing within you.

Lovely post. I have a friend that’s gone MIA for a few years but I’m seeing her tonight and then again in a week! It’s made me so happy. I’m hoping it means she’s come out of whatever shut her down and reminded me of the importance of continuing to invite people to things, even if they always say no….

The minute I read your blurb, I knew I would love your post. Your patience has been rewarded with all of those beautiful blooms. I love the comparison of your orchid’s growth to our own human growth. I feel like someone has sprinkled some fertilizer on me and my buds are opening into full, beautiful blooms. Not sure what the difference is but I think it may come from balance. Something that has eluded my most of my life.
When my mom died, I brought home her orchid. Because she had not been completely well before the fall that took her life, the orchid was struggling a little bit. But mom had always had healthy plants so I thought sure I could love it back to health. Instead, I killed it in record time. I didn’t know that the brown roots that lay above the soil were just that – roots. And I cut them!! The plant curled up and died within a day or two.
You have inspired me to buy an orchid and try again. In my mom’s memory and in your honor. Putting that on my summer bucket list. Love you!!
