Another week of Ageing Well in August and I’m loving the series and the response. During August, the focus has been on Ageing Well and I’ve been posting tips daily on the ST60 & Beyond – Let’s Thrive Facebook Group. I’m also co-hosting the series with Debbie from Deb’s World and each Saturday we are hosting link up for you to share your thoughts on Ageing Well.

My next 7 ways to inspire you to Age Well


Water is essential for life. Drinking water and staying hydrated has so many benefits

  • Increases energy
  • Improves skin
  • Relieves fatigue
  • Promotes weight loss
  • Cleans the toxins from our bodies
  • Maintains regularity
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Is a natural headache remedy
  • Prevents muscle cramps

What’s not to like? Set your alarm to remind you to drink 1 litre of water/25kg of your weight each day.


Too often I hear Women Over 50 say they feel invisible, they feel pushed aside. If we feel invisible we will be. Make yourself visible, be heard and be proud of who you are. Don’t wear an Invisibility Cloak!


Do you find yourself sometimes being a grumpy old woman? I know I am sometimes but we need to remember that we were young once so let’s try and avoid saying ‘Young People these days’ because that was what was said about our generation and probably those before. Young people have much to offer even if their ideas are different to ours.


As we age we can lose the ability of curiosity. As a child we are curious about everything and question life around us. Staying curious and maintaining interest in life and living is an important key to Ageing Well. What are you curious about?


Prejudice is something we all have – it is part of being human. Overcoming prejudice means opening our minds to new ideas and thinking. Holding onto prejudice is not ageing well it is becoming bitter and who wants to be a bitter, old woman?

I acknowledge that beauty should come from the inside but taking care of our body and appearance is part of ageing well. Being healthy inside and out, by living a healthy lifestyle with the important ingredient – A SMILE- not only makes you look beautiful but gives you self-confidence and health to enjoy life.

Laughter brings joy and light into our life. It lifts our spirits and is good for our mental health. How can you bring more laughter into your life?

    Such great reminders, Sue. And as usual, so timely! I’ve mentioned before that I need to drink more water, and I try… I honestly do, Today, I decided to put myself on a water drinking program, and as soon as I did that, your post popped up. Great timing! 🙂

    These were great prompts Sue – and all so important if we want to stay relevant and visible in Midlife. So many women stop laughing, growing, looking after ourselves, and taking a healthy interest in the world keep us vital and engaged – and to me that’s what Midlife is all about x

    Re the “Young People these days” … I can’t remember the specifics but a lecturer told a story in a class in my undergrad that has always stuck with me. It was about the evolution of writing. Every step of the way, people were “Oh no, it’s the death of handwriting!” from fountain pens to ball point pens to most things being online… and yet, have we stopped hand writing? Overall, not really. It’s the same sort of thing, an evolution can seem irrelevant or scary but it happens in all contexts.

    And drinking water – yes! I nearly always have a water bottle on me. Gotta stay hydrated for so many reasons.

      Yes evolution is part of life and I remember that people said the same thing about e-readers – it would be the death of the hard copy. Yet I see so many books still in publication and on display in bookstores. Change is inevitable and we need to embrace it and learn from the innovators. Hope your week is going well. xx

    I find myself reminding some of my friends (usually male) that remark about young people. I always remind them that they were young once and probably the same!
    I appreciated a funny joke video message from my mum the other morning. She must have known I needed a good start to my day with a laugh. It definitely sets the mood.

    I love all of these Sue – and the quotes you’ve chosen to go with them. I think so much of Aging well is to do with our attitude – if we’re positive and choose joy and acceptance, remember to laugh, smile at others, be kind, be grateful, the rest just falls into place.

    All of these tips are so positive and useful. I believe that how we age is largely up to us. We are given some genetics and some life and medical issues, but how we handle them is our choice. I love seeing an entire movement of people who choose to age positively. it is inspirational!

    Water is my nemesis! I drink coffee all morning and then don’t drink much of anything after that. It’s something I really need to focus on.

    Great tips Sue and I tend to forget to drink enough water in Winter. I notice because the skin on my forearms looks a bit flaky and my legs too. Definitely need to drink more water than coffee! Pinned 🙂 #MLSTL

    I ticked all of these with pride..but water did let me down. I ‘think’ I drink enough water and have water with me at all times but I know I could (and should) drink more! Promise I will.

    Dear Sue, This series is fabulous. Some things like self-care and exercise are part of my regular routine. Other things like #8 getting connected with technology I’m doing at a slower pace. I have learned being gentle with myself is key to happiness, and that helps me go with the flow and carry on. Love the quotes. I will reshare and pin.

    There are so many good tips here, Sue. This has possibly been my favorite monthly theme so far. I believe that being curious and dropping prejudices go hand in hand. If you are truly curious about things, you have to open your mind and be willing to rethink preconceived notions. It’s an ongoing process and an important part of aging well and continuing to grow and learn. Thank you for this series and for #MLSTL.

    Sue I could not agree more with all these prompts, but particularly the one about invisibility. I feel women need to be constantly reminded that they don’t need to be invisible. Some choose to be, and that’s fine, but it doesn’t have to be that way. I loved this post and I am sharing it on social media.
