This quote says it all. I truly believe that life is what you make it. As the saying goes ‘age is just a number’. There are some very ‘young’ and inspiring 80 year olds (which is what I’m aiming to be) and equally there are some of us in their 30s, 40s and 50s who feel old and unfulfilled.
I enjoy spending time with people of all ages as everyone has something to offer – even if they don’t realize it at the time. I love hearing about what other people are doing with their lives and this can be very motivating.
My darling godmother is in her 70s. She still works two days a week travelling an hour by public transport each way, looks after her grandchildren, loves gardening and is very active in the community, catching up with friends and her political party. Her passion is ancestry and she has so much information about my mum’s side of the family tree it is wonderful.
I know an 80 year old who is never home! She has activities every day and is full of vitality. Equally I know a girl who has overcome many obstacles in her life including an eating disorder who climbed to base camp in Nepal at the end of last year and has just completed her first 12 hour (yes 12 hour) run around 100kms! She only started running a couple of years ago.
Another friend, found herself made redundant (hate that word) and without a job in her mid 40s after 20 years of working. Instead of feeling sorry for herself she thought seriously about what she wanted to do with her life and went with her dream. She started her own business in her mid 40s. Yes, it was difficult at first but through hard work and determination she is now in a good place.
These are everyday inspirational people who are living their lives in a healthy and vital way .We are all inspirational in our own way we just have to recognize it. Click To TweetDon’t worry there will be a blog on this!
But it doesn’t all have to be about running or starting a business or spending time with family and friends or even pole dancing (Yes, I said Pole dancing LOL) – it’s about YOU and what you want from life.As they say 'life isn't a dress rehearsal'!Click To Tweet
My daughter sent me this article which was in the Huffington Post and certainly shows you are never too old to try new things! Please take a look – it will give you a chuckle but also hopefully make you think. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/15/senior-photo-series-stereotype-aging_n_6478726.html?ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000063
I’d love to hear if you have anything that you would really like to try but are a bit nervous about taking the plunge. Go for it I’d say! I did by starting this blog and even though I doubted my ability I’ve given it a shot and it makes me happy which is what it is all about.
