Do you shy away from leading a fit and active lifestyle because you think you are too old?
Are you placing limitations on yourself by focusing on your age rather than your ability?
If you answered ‘yes’, then I hope that after you read my story you might be inspired and motivated to make some healthy lifestyle changes and start living life to the full.
I’m honoured to be a Guest for Cathy at My Side of 50 this week as I share my tips on how I ran a marathon at 55. No, you don’t have to run a marathon but my 7 tips may help you start your fitness program to achieve your health and fitness goals. You can read my guest post in full here.
Like many young girls, growing up I did dancing – ballet, tap, jazz and highland dancing. I then achieved my dream and opened a ballet studio at 15 years old, which I continued for about 15 years.
I was never athletic at school and tried to keep fit with aerobics back in the 80s after I had my family. However, like many, life took over and I just didn’t have time (my excuse) or MAKE the time to keep fit and healthy. I would probably rate myself around 3.5 stars for health and fitness back then.
Of course, now I am 60 and over the last 10 years my attitude to health and fitness has certainly changed. Having lost my Mum at 60, Dad at 66 and my brother more recently at 65, all to various forms of cancer, as I neared midlife I was very conscious that I needed to make sure I did all I could to live a healthier lifestyle.
I wish I had known when I was 30 what I know now but the important lesson I have learned is it is never too late and we can achieve anything if we stop placing limitations on ourselves.
Please join me over at Cathy’s to read my tips and also leave us a comment – we love hearing from you.

Such a great post, Sue! I know it will inspire all of us to set fitness goals and commit to achieving them. So excited to share your story with my readers!
Thank you for having me as your guest, Cathy. The post looks great and I hope that I can inspire others to start some form of activity to keep healthy. I know running isn’t for everyone but there are plenty of alternatives that women can choose from and enjoy keeping fit. Have a beautiful day xx
HI, Sue – I’m just taking a small break from building a VERY LARGE SANDCASTLE on the beach (Tofino, BC) with my 3-year old Grandson, Charlie. Talk about a fitness workout!! I’m off to visit your Guest Post at Cathy’s now. I’m greatly looking forward to reading your tips — I definitely need them to keep up with Charlie!
Oh Donna, how wonderful to spend time with Charlie! These are such precious moments. Yesterday and today I’m taking Ethan to kindy and then spending time with Elliot and Rachel. It is lovely to have her on leave at the moment so we can spend some quality time together and Nan can get plenty of cuddles of my new grandson Enjoy your sandcastle building it is hard work! xx
Hi Sue – great to see you popping around the blogosphere to share your health and fitness message. Also love the new blog format – very clean and easy to navigate. You are always upping your game 🙂
Hi Leanne, yes it comes in waves sometimes. Thanks for the comment about the blog, I haven’t really been totally satisfied and thought okay time to really get serious and find something I just love and I also enjoy tinkering. The previous theme was causing too many problems for me as well so it was time to move on. 🙂
I love to work out! I do it four times a week. It clears my head!
Just popped over to Cathys blog to check out your guest post Sue. This is a great post with fantastic tips. I really need to straighten out my nutrition. A few bad habits have crept in with the cold weather.
Thanks for the feedback Jen. It is hard in the cold weather not to resort to comfort food isn’t it? 🙂
