Thoughts on being 60 and proud of it!

60 and Proud of it

Being 60 and Proud of it

If you read my blog you will know that in August I celebrated my 60th Birthday and dedicated my blog theme to Celebrate Life Now.  If you missed any of the posts just click here to read not just about my birthday celebrations but also why I believe that we should all Celebrate Life Now and not wait until it is too late.

Being 60 and Proud of It

I was totally spoilt for my birthday and was surrounded by so much love from family and friends.  I received many thoughtful gifts and one I wanted to share with you is this cute little book called ’60 and Proud of It’.  One of my Saturday Sisters (the friends I run with) gave it to me as an ‘extra’ gift and I just love it.

As the back cover says:

Congratulations – you’re starting another exciting new decade! This little book, packed with wise and witty quotations, is the perfect way to show the world that you are 60 and proud of it.

There are over 150 thoughts and quotes in the book and some made me laugh and some made me think. I will be sharing these quotes with you over the coming year and hope that some, if not all resonate with you.

I’ve written many posts with my thoughts on aging and how feeling positive, being fit, active and connected with others makes for a fabulous time of life.  Recognising that life is good and making the time to reflect and be grateful is a great motivator.

I have been very encouraged lately to connect with women 50+ who are embracing this time of life with enthusiasm and certainly not letting things like hot flushes get in the way.  Conversely there are still some women who are finding it difficult to adjust to the empty nest and this can be a real issue for some.

Enthusiasm is infectious and I feel motivated when I read what other women are writing about on their journey through midlife.  We are coming into our own.  We are finally at a time of life when it is ‘our time’ to enjoy, keep growing and keep learning.

I belong to a couple of facebook groups one is called ‘Forever Fierce: The Midlife Revolution’ and the other is ‘BloggingGrandmothers’ .  I enjoy both of these groups as I can connect with women who are facing the same issues that I am and are also being proactive about aging in a positive way.

I would also love you to mark October in your diary as the theme on the blog will be Positive Aging, including The Positive Aging Interviews series where I will be introducing some fabulous 50+ women to you.

Here are 4 quotes from the book I’d like to share – let me know your favourite!

Isn’t if fabulous that we just keep getting better with age Sue? You make 60 look amazing and I love that you are setting the bar so high for the rest of us – you are an inspiration. Looking forward to what you have to share over October – while you’re busy cruising around Italy at the same time! xx

Oh you are so lovely Leanne and your friendship and opinion mean a lot to me. I’m trying to set an example, although sometimes I might miss the mark. Yes October is all about Positive Aging and part of PA for me is living life to the full. Have a great week and hold this space for the the photos of our trip! xx

      What Leanne said!!! 🙂

No question – you have to pay no attention to it whatsoever. Don’t count the years – make them count for you! The results of last week’s survey

That is perfectly said Shirley! Have a great week! xx

Great quotes. I must admit I’m a lot better about the idea of turning 50 at the end of the year now I’ve connected with a more mature group of bloggers who are really embracing their age. And I realise it really is just a number and means little in the overall scheme of things.

I guess I only struggle a little when there are things I feel others my age have experienced / are experiencing that I haven’t (like motherhood and so forth). It makes it a bit harder to relate to things sometimes and I feel a little left out. In some ways I live the life of a single 30 year old. Who’s almost 50! #teamlovinlife

As long as you are enjoying your life Deb that is the main thing. To mean age is only how you view it and I just don’t focus on the number. I’m glad that some of us more mature ladies have helped you embrace midlife. Have a great weekend. xx

Yes that is my favourite too SSG! Have a great weekend xx

You look absolutely amazing at 60 Sue, and you’re a torchbearer for keeping fit too. I love the quotes. I do think the one about not paying too much attention to getting older is the best. If I don’t think about how old I am, I don’t feel old at all – and these days, who is to say what and when old really is!

  • Reply Julie September 21, 2017 at 11:50

Sounds like a terrific book! I love the quotes and agree with you on surrounding myself with women who are also embracing this time of our lives.

Thank you so much Min for your lovely compliment it certainly means a lot to me. I love that quote too – we just need to imagine what we want and then have the passion and determination to make it a reality. Have a great weekend xx

I’m a strong believer in a positive outlook, and I choose joy each morning as a positive affirmation for my day. You’ve a great decade ahead. I know you’ll blaze a path to the stars.

Thank you so much for your lovely words Carol. What a lovely way to start your day by choosing Joy. How can you not be happy and positive when you are mindful of joy and happiness. Have a lovely weekend and thanks for stopping by xx

Age is simply a number in my book. If you focus on staying healthy and happy, life is great at any age. Love the Joan Collins quote too! 🙂 #TeamLovinLife

Yes we think alike Lyndall. I love the Joan Collins quote too! Have a lovely weekend. xx

Well I can’t say I’m positive 100% all the time Deb, I’m only human after all 🙂 but I do try to put a positive spin on things and make the most of the life I have been given. 🙂 🙂 It has been lovely getting to know you. xx

I enjoyed all the quotes you shared. The last one (age is just a number…) made me smile, so I guess that’s my favorite. I always find your blog posts inspiring. I’m especially looking forward to October’s theme of positive aging.

I’ve already joined you Sue in your sexy sixties and I’m embracing it as well. My focus this year has been on travelling to Italy and Vietnam, embarking on a weight loss and getting fit journey and finding a quieter place to live for our retirement. So far I’ve accomplished so much in my first year of being 60.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric September 26, 2017 at 07:42

I know Kathy, I see you in Vietnam and think ‘wait a minute Kathy was just in Italy’. You are having a great year and I’m enjoying your travel posts. I think 60 really does bring much more freedom than ever before. So I agree ‘sexy sixties’ rock!
