6 Ways to De-Stress in 30 minutes

destressIt’s been one of those days or weeks!  Everyone wants something from you, nothing seems to be going right and you are feeling like you are JUST OVER IT!  All you want to do is escape from the world and try to relax.  Does that sound familiar?

We sometimes make excuses that we don’t have time and with families it is sometimes difficult to switch off until they are in bed.  Then all you feel like doing is collapsing into bed yourself!

Well don’t despair, I have 6 ways to reduce your stress and feel human again!

Take some time out for ‘Me’ time

Firstly, you need to make some time for YOU!!

I don’t how often I have written about this but really if you aren’t relaxed and happy then you aren’t any good to anyone let alone yourself.  If you have children, ask your partner or a friend to take care of the children for minimum 1 hour.  Then go have some ‘me time’ to relax!

Take a long bath

Bubble bath

Drawing a bath, pouring in your favourite scented bubble or bath oil, lighting the candles and putting on some relaxing music will help reduce those stress levels in no time.

Oh I nearly forgot!  Put a DO NOT DISTURB sign on the bathroom so you can have some quiet time with no interruptions.

Close your eyes and just enjoy. Try to relax and concentrate on your breathing – slowing in and out and empty your mind of the day’s problems and let your mind wander onto more pleasant dreams that you may have.

ABBA to the rescue!

Try to exercise.  Go for a walk, run, swim, practice yoga or just put some music on and dance around the living room.  Personally, I’m an ABBA fan so that gets me going (oops hope I don’t lose any readers from that admission!)

Exercise will the get endorphins (feel good hormones) going and releases the stress in your body.

No time you say?  Just do 10 minutes it is surprising how much better you will feel.

Vege out and watch your favourite movie.

Watch a movie


Pull out your favourite movie and get lost for a couple of hours.  Sometimes we just need to forget the world and even watching a reality TV program will help you escape for a while.  A little trashy TV never hurt anyone!


have a massage


Book in for a massage or ask your partner for one!  It will give you both some time together to reconnect You will feel the tension in your muscles just sliding away – bliss!

Sometimes it is nice to just hop into bed and have an early night.  Make sure your room is comfortable with no distractions and use your slow breathing techniques to relax.  Maybe wear your favourite nightwear or nothing if you prefer!  it is all about letting go of the day and knowing that tomorrow WILL BE BETTER!

    I need more early nights! I took a couple of beautiful baths whilst in Tassie and it was so lovely, it’s just something when at home I don’t tend to do, but I should.       I have always had trouble sleeping Mackenzie so this is a problem for me. I do love a long soak in a bubble bath with a glass of champers to wash away the stresses of the day! thanks for stopping by.

    I think of life like the oxygen masks that come down in an air craft…one needs to put one’s mask on first before one can help another! Good post Sue! Great reminder to all!

      Yes I love to go for a run to clear the stresses of my day or have a long soak in the tub. My husband always says ‘ do you need to go for a run?” when he knows that I am stressing!

    Great tips! I find taking a shower washes away the stresses of the day… and burning incense, doing yoga. massages – most definitely!

      Oh yes Janine a nice hot shower helps. I love that after a long run I can feel the stresses just washing away.

    So true, Sue! I’m better about taking “me” time now that I’m older & my kids are grown. But I think my family would have been served a lot better if I had done a lot more “self-care” in the past! I am now booked for monthly massages through December – which is quite an indulgence, but makes me feel so good.

    Reading has been my escape lately. I have 2 adult coloring books waiting for me as well.
    These are very easy ways to destress that anyone can follow for a better life.

      Yes I love reading Debbie it is a great way to escape. I was also given a colouring book for Christmas however it can be quite overwhelming if the pattern is too intricate – trying to keep in the lines! Have a great weekend!

    I’m an ABBA fan too, and listening to their music is a great way to get up and move! I can’t sit still when an ABBA song comes on lol. I blame my parents for that.

    These are all great stress relievers, Sue. My favorites would have to be watching movies with the kids, going for walks and listening to music. That has been a lifelong passion of mine.

    One thing I do is to let things go. It’s not the end of the world if the dishes don’t get done till the morning or the floor isn’t swept immediately. I de- stress on social media or with a good book. I love to sleep!!

    Right on, Sue! I love this post. Multitasking has ruined a lot of people’s “Me Time”. They just can’t seem to unplug or sit still for long. It’s become a selfish concept in our society when nothing is further from the truth. Thank you for sharing!

    I love a bit of ABBA too. I don’t judge you. Some good tips here. I must admit though if I settle down with a good book, I have known to have too much ‘me-time’ as sometimes I can’t put it down. But I always feel so good after reading an amazing book, so it definitely works.

    I love ABBA and your article contains some wonderful tips, Sue. I certainly get stressed very easily and if I don’t try to get it under control then physical symptoms of anxiety start to emerge. Movie, massage and an early night sound like the perfect antidote.

      Hi Toni it is difficult sometimes to overcome stress but if we know of ways we can relieve it that certainly helps. I’m glad to have found an ABBA fan they certainly take my stress away!
