6 Ways to Love Yourself Today

love yourself

love yourself

‘Love is all around us and so the feeling grows’ as the words of the famous song go.  BUT and it is a big BUT are you loving you?  In my previous post, I wrote about Love and why you should love yourself first. No it isn’t selfish, it is paramount to your health and happiness.

Not feeling the love?

Here are 6 ways to Love Yourself Today

Be Kind to Yourself

love yourself

You are kind and compassionate to others, so why not yourself?  Treat yourself and do something just for YOU.  Nurture your mind, body and soul.

Respect Yourself

As Aretha sang:  RESPECT YOURSELF!  R-E-S-P-E-C-T.  Treat yourself the way you would like others to treat you.  You can’t expect people to respect you if you don’t respect yourself.  Acknowledge who you are and be grateful for all the good in your life.

Look in the Mirror, Smile and tell yourself how wonderful you are – and believe it!

Sounds a bit corny but it does work.  Smiling can lift the spirits and by complimenting yourself you are reinforcing the positive thoughts rather than the negative nellie that can reside in our minds.

Live a healthier lifestyle

Respecting yourself also means being healthy and treating your body with respect.  Regular exercise and eating a balanced diet will not only make you feel good on the inside but you will shine on the outside.

Embrace your uniqueness

love yourself

You are you – unique and lovely.  There is no other person in this world like you so embrace who you are and be proud of who you are.

Take the pressure off

Don’t strive for perfection – we are only human remember.  That doesn’t mean copping out of being the best version of you but it does mean cutting yourself some slack when life gets tough or you mess up.  We all do so don’t beat yourself up about it – life happens.

Every one of these are so important Sue – and big lessons I’ve been learning in the last few years – especially about self respect, self worth and cutting down on perfectionism. BTW I now have “Love is All Around Us” stuck in my head – with flashbacks to the film clip!

I love that song so I could think of worse songs to have in my head LOL:) Did you like the movie? I always cry just even thinking about it, even more so now that Alan Rickman passed away. 🙁

“Look in the mirror, smile, and tell yourself how wonderful you are.”
I think that’s one of the hardest steps to take if you want to love yourself. Why is it easier to tell someone you love them, but so difficult to do the same for yourself? If we tell our kids we love them everyday, we should do the same to ourselves.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric February 19, 2017 at 11:56

Exactly Fabiola but I think perhaps our mindset is that we feel vain if we admit to loving ourselves. Yet loving ourselves means respect and honouring the person we are and that is vanity at all. Have a lovely day xx

Enjoyed this article. Sometimes we are hardest on ourselves. We should be at least as kind to ourselves as we are to our best friend because in the end, we should be our own very best friend. Thank you for sharing with #bloggingrandmothers. I have shared on my social media.

I’m so pleased you enjoyed the article Clearissa. We are usually hardest on ourselves and don’t realise that it is healthier for us and our well-being to be kind to ourselves. I love your idea of being our own best friend. Have a beautiful day. xx

Doing mirror work, smiling or saying affirmations does sound corny ,but it is so effective. Why is being kind to ourselves such a chore?

    • Reply Sue Loncaric February 19, 2017 at 11:54

I know Beth, we just seem to feel guilty when we do something for ourselves, yet it is so good for our healthy and well-being. Have a beautiful day and do something for you xx

These are all good and as I’ve said before – Take care of yourself because you’re the only you that you have. One that I have trouble with is perfection, it drives me nuts trying to be so perfect at everything 🙁 Thanks Sue from Grammy Dee, #BloggingGrandmothers #LinkUp #BlogParty, social media shared.

Sue this is good advice and much needed for me right now. After a couple of very trying weeks, I am now home and trying to catch up with many things in my life. Instead of forging through, and feeling drained, I need to slow down and take care of myself. I am going to relax and do something fun this weekend like just read a novel or watch a movie.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric February 27, 2017 at 09:14

Oh I’m sorry to hear that life has not been kind lately, Michele. Taking care of yourself should be paramount and I love your ideas for relaxing – perfect! Take care xx

Six very good suggestions, especially the “embrace your uniqueness” one. So often we try to be someone else, when our own unique is our greatest strength.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric March 15, 2017 at 13:50

I think when we accept our uniqueness as something to be proud of a weight is certainly lifted and we don’t have to pretend anymore.
