What brings meaning to your life? That is the question I would like you to consider today.
In this week’s Meaningful Mondays post, I would love to introduce you to some dear friends of mine who I have met through blogging. All of them are at that wonderful phase of life – Midlife & Beyond and I would encourage you to check out each of their websites and social media sites for some great reading and insights. You can find their links at the end of the post.
I asked each of these lovely ladies the same question – What brings meaning to your life? Although their answers were similar they do have different ‘takes’ on the question.

‘Meaning in life for me comes in three “F”s – Faith, Family and Friendships.
Faith: I have based my core beliefs and values on there being a God who cares about me and how I live my life. To me, faith in God is about investing in becoming the best person I am capable of being, and from there it flows into my relationships. It’s about having a bigger perspective and caring about myself and other people.
Family: My husband and children (and grandbaby) are the people who give me a reason to get up every morning, and who bring me joy and a sense of belonging. Family love is unconditional and all encompassing – my sense of self is tied in very strongly with being a wife and mother, and now a Nan to my little grandbaby.
Friends: These are the people who “get” me and understand me and accept me for the woman I am. They have my back, they make me laugh, they share the journey, and they are the extended family I need to truly feel complete.

I think it’s mostly the simple things in life that brings meaning to my life, such as spending time with my family, celebrating occasions, getting together with good friends and walking in nature.
However I think the big one for me is to travel to new and exciting destinations. I get a lot of enjoyment and sense of adventure from travelling both within my own country and overseas. It has brought me so much happiness and a re-connection with myself, making me appreciate the blessings that I have in my life.

What Brings Meaning To My Life?
This was something I have pondered on since being asked to write about it. I first thought ‘art’. Then my husband said ‘what about me?’ Of course! In my now 68th year on earth (and boy, that took some courage to admit) here’s what brings meaning to my life now:
- Learning to care for myself and put my needs first after many decades of doing this for others first in my career in education and for family. I do this via art, photography and being in nature.
- Remembering that whilst our days of child-rearing and grandchild caring are over and that those responsibilities are no longer ours I can lovingly tuck those memories and pride into part of the meaningful life I lead now.
- Becoming a learner about life’s challenges and opportunities , spirituality that fits my life view, and using my mind and body along with my heart to become more at peace with me now. I meditate daily, read widely and do courses in mindfulness and self-compassion.
- Connecting with others via social media and my blog. I have been fortunate to be part of the Australian blogging scene for some time now and it’s been so helpful to keep me intellectually active and communicating with many different people I may never have ‘met’ without the blog.

Of course, I need my family, friends, and cats in order to have meaning in
my life! That’s a given.
But, for me to be happy…really happy, at home in
my skin, I need to be doing something creative every day.
It can be something small, that only takes a few minutes each day…but it is what
makes me feel right. I’ve found that at a minimum, I need at least 15
minutes a day (I love those rainy days when I can sit and create all day
long), by myself, to do something I love to create balance and meaning in
I love learning and trying new things. I sign up for online
classes, Facebook groups, webinars, and I just started doing some
challenges on Instagram. I post a new photo each day on my blog and on my
Facebook account and that keeps me moving. I love transferring the photos
from my camera on to my computer and watching all the new images come up!
I love going to bed at night and thinking about how I will tackle a little
project the next day. Then, the next morning, I wake up and start planning
my day with my project in mind. My family, my friends, my cats, my camera, my laptop, brush markers, ingredients for a recipe, and a few ideas whirling around in my head is what brings meaning to my life.

Relationships with those I love are the most meaningful part of my life. I cherish the time I have with my family – my husband, daughters and grandchildren.
But if you were to ask me what GIVES my life meaning, I would have to say my relationship with God. My life has meaning because He created me with a plan and purpose. He gave me the precious gift of family. He equipped me with the gifts and talents that I use every day with joy in creating my blog. He gave me His Son, Jesus, Who died for my sins, and through his sacrifice, I know that death is not the end. I will live with Him and those I love for eternity. What a wonderful gift. Thank you, Jesus!
For in Him we live and move and have our being Acts 17:28
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
