3 simple steps to a happier life – U.N. International Day of Happiness

March 20, 2023

March 20 is International Day of Happiness and whilst we should be striving for happiness daily, it is good to have a reminder to help us focus on what makes us happy.

Earlier in the month I shared the Action for Happiness Calendar for March with the theme of Mindful March. In that post I shared the benefits of mindfulness and ways we can practice being more mindful each day. Mindfulness means that we are focusing on the moment and sometimes in those moments we find joy and feeling of wellbeing.

Whilst I believe that we are responsible for finding our own happiness within, we can find happiness through others and external influences and experiences.

3 simple steps to a happier life

International Day of Happiness

The theme this year is ‘Be Mindful. Be Grateful. Be Kind’ – doesn’t really seem that hard does it?

This 3 step process is an easy daily practice – who doesn’t want to feel happier or be kinder to themselves and others?

Step 1 – Be Mindful

Relax, breathe and tune in with how you are feeling right in that moment

Step 2 – Be Grateful

Take time to reflect on what you are thankful for

Step 3 – Be Kind

Take a moment to think about who you would like to send love to and while you are at it send some love to yourself.

So on this International Day of Happiness I’m thinking of you and sending love and hugs and I hope this message brings warmth and happiness to your day.

Hi Sue – great reminders. After a lifetime of having my happiness revolve around others (if they were happy then I was happy), it’s been such an eye opener to discover that I can be the source of my own happiness – and gratitude is central to that. Sharing happiness with others is a kindness in itself. Now I just need to keep working on the mindfulness aspect. Have a great Happiness Day x

Hi Leanne, I think mindfulness is the most challenging of these steps. Making time to just stop and be in the moment certainly requires practice. x
