12 Women Over 50 Share their Natural Wellness Tips

This month’s Wellness Wednesday topic is Natural Wellness tips.  Enjoying good health doesn’t just happen. We need to ensure that we live a healthy lifestyle to keep our bodies in the best condition we can, to enjoy an active life well into our later years.

There are many ways to be healthy naturally, and so I decided to ask for some tips from members of my Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond – Let’s Thrive Facebook Group.  Come join the group!

I’m sharing with you today not only my tips for natural wellness but also those kindly suggested by the group.

I have always believed that we need a holistic approach to health and wellness.  Natural Wellness means total health and well being, not just physically but mentally and spiritually.  A total overall approach to health, which these tips below all cover.

My top three tips are:

Stay hydrated – keep that water bottle with you at all times.

60% of our bodies is made up of water so keeping your body hydrated year round is important.  It is easy to remember to drink water in Summer when we are hot and sweaty but we can forget during the cooleer months. You can read my 4 Reasons Why you need to keep hydrated – Summer & Winter here .  Keep a bottle of water with you at all times and drink regularly. You skin will glow and your body will function so much better for you.

Taking time to reflect and feel calm by using breathing techniques and meditation

Remembering to take care of our mental health and our soul.  Creating a daily ritual to practice gratitude and reflect on our life is essential.  It starts the day well and helps us to feel calm.  Using breathing techniques when we feel anxious is a good way to calm our mind and our body.

Just Move Every Day!

You need to move every day and at least 30 minutes of each day should be some form of formal ‘exercise’.  My Natural Wellness tip is to ENJOY WHAT YOU ARE DOING.  You find it so much easier to keep fit and active doing something that you love rather than looking at it as a chore.

I’ve grouped them into the three different categories – Mind – Body – Soul, although some could be included in all three.  Some of the contributors are bloggers so be sure to check out their links to their websites.

Mind – this includes looking after our mental health

Walk and talk. My therapy Lea

My favourite thing to do is to have a regular massage. I always book the next one in as I’m finishing up so I have it to look forward to. It helps soothe, relax, hurt (in a good way) and is a quiet hour I always enjoy.- Debbie from Deb’s World

General Life Wellness Tip: Live to the beat of your own drum. Don’t do or be as others do or say. Be your own best friend and know you well. Find the right life balance for you – in mind, body & spirit.- Min from Write of the Middle

Body – this includes exercise and healthy eating

Mine would be eat healthy – not too many processed “treats” and move more than you’re doing now – we all need to move regularly and often! – Leanne from Cresting the Hill

I have this one on the wall of my gym: ‘You Don’t Get What You Wish For You Get What You Work For.’ How about this tip from Quit Sugar guru – Just Eat Real Food or as she says JERF  – Jennifer from Next Phase Fitness

Avoid the middle sections of supermarkets and shop the edges where the real food lurks! Be good when it comes to food and exercise 80% of the time, but if you lapse for 20% of the time, don’t beat yourself up over it. Just get back on the healthy band wagon the next day.Jo from Lifestyle Fifty

Trying hard to cut back on sugar (yes I’ve seen that movie) – for all sorts of reasons, but damn it’s a tough gig at times! Christine from Booming On

Sleep We spend up to one-third of our lives asleep, but are you sleeping the recommended ? 7 to 8 hours, that’s my goal – Janet

My favourite Essential Oils You can read what Christie’s favourite essential oils area over at her blog. Christie from So What? Now What?

You literally “are what you eat”. Your diet can make a world of difference! It certainly has for me! – Roseann

Soul – This is doing things that bring us joy

Spending time with family and friends gives you a boost that no medication will ever achieve. – Marilyn

Daily: Pray, meditate, visualize, eat, move, love, laugh. Daily thankfulness notes.
Weekly: forgiveness session, journal, conversation with friends, go to church. Read.
Monthly: Declutter. Activity with friends.
In summary, something for the spirit, something for the mind, something for the heart and something for the body. – Guerdah

Great tips from you and the other bloggers who shared Sue (thanks for including mine!) I must say that avoiding sugar is becoming more important to me since watching That Sugar Film – there’s some scary stuff in processed foods!

Some great tips. Mind you, these are all relevant for the under 50s too. My 20-something is far better than I at healthy living, exercise and mindfulness – which will put her in a great position for the future.

    • Reply Sue Loncaric April 12, 2018 at 17:03

Hi Chris yes of course they are relevant to everyone that is for sure. I think your 20-something generation had a head start with the knowledge we have now about the importance of keeping fit throughout life. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
