10 Ways To Banish Stress From Your Life

Stress busters for life

Stress busters for lifeFeeling stressed?  Of course you are!  Whether you have stress from your job, family or life in general none of us are immune to being stressed.

Stress can rob us of our happiness and contentment in life and life is too short not to be happy and contented.  Stress can also be self-imposed so just be kind to yourself and realize we aren’t all Superwoman or Superman.

It’s time to Banish Stress from your life!  It’s your choice!

Here are 10 stress busters you can try to release the tension.

1. Exercise

Walk, run, skip, gym, zumba – any type of exercise.  30 minutes of daily exercise will release your endorphins (the ‘happy’ hormones) and chase that stress away.  Just move and you will feel better. Implementing a daily exercise routine is a good start to managing stress.  My 6 Steps to Starting an Exercise plan will help get you on your way.

2. Meditate

Meditation can help relieve stress as it is a form of relaxation.  Find a quiet spot at home, in the park or even in your office and take 5 minutes out of your day.  Close your eyes and try to clear your mind of all thoughts.  Concentrate on breathing deeply and slowly in and out.  If you aren’t sure what to do, join a yoga class which will combine both mental and physical techniques.

3. Listen to Music

Let yourself go, sing and dance to your favourite music or put the headphones on and just lose yourself.

4. Pamper Yourself

I talk about ‘Me Time’ and no matter how busy you are you need to incorporate some ‘Me Time’ into your life.  Find someone to mind the kids, and treat yourself to a soothing massage.  Light some candles, play some soothing music and luxuriate in a bubble bath.  Offer to return the favour for another mum and mind their children for an hour.  I’m sure they would appreciate it.

5. Socialise

Catch up with a friend for a coffee, a movie, a walk or just a chat.  Socialising takes your mind off your problems or sharing and discussing problems or cause of stress with your partner or close friend can certainly help.

6. Keep a Journal

Writing your thoughts and feelings down can be a helpful way to relieve the stress.  Why not write down each day what you are grateful for or what it was that made you feel good that day.  Concentrating on the positives in your life will help to make you feel that things aren’t quite as bad as they seem.

7. Cuddle

A cosy cuddle can help make things feel better.  If you don’t have a partner, that’s not a problem, some people have animals that they love to snuggle with.  Cuddling is comforting.

8. Plan your Time

Sometimes we impose stress on ourselves unnecessarily because we don’t plan or won’t ask for help.  Mothers complain they don’t have any time for themselves but do you ask for help?  Executives say they are stressed because of work and the number of meetings they have to fit in.  Write down everything you do in a week and then review.  Are there things you can change?  Can you delegate?  Are all these meetings productive and necessary?  You may find ways to save time and relieve the stress in your day to day life.

9. Laugh

When was the last time your laughed?  Try to bring more laughter into your life.

10. Escape

Plan getaways with your partner, family or friends.  A weekend away from the routine of life can make a great difference.  Do you take regular holidays?  Make this a priority.  Instead of buying takeaway every week put that money aside for a holiday.  Plan your escape and you will have something to look forward to.  Even a mini break can help.

I use Reiki to help me manage with stress and balance my life. Of course that CrossFit helps me a lot too, but it will be a while until I get to it again.
    Great list!

Hi Debbie, I’ve never tried Reiki but like Cross Fit. You take care and thanks for taking the time to comment.

Thank you for compiling a great list of stress busters! I tend to only focus on a couple of ways to relax, but would probably benefit to incorporate others as well.
One thing that helps me is reminding myself that God is in control and I can trust Him to get me through this stressful moment.

Hi Charissa thanks for your comment. When we are stressed it is had to even focus on relaxation sometimes however if we have a list we can try to incorporate some of them into our daily lives.

Definitely some great tips here! Hobbies can also be useful, like knitting or kickboxing or something. Anything that takes your mind off the worries and wearies of the world, I guess! Thanks for sharing on Food & Fitness Friday!

Great list. Going for a walk helps the tension in my muscles, but my mind just goes wild. Digging in and writing a blog helps me escape the outside presures. Laughing is always fun, and finding things that are inspirational to show you that you are doing good. Stress needs to go away!

    • Reply Sue Loncaric July 1, 2016 at 10:56

We always need to laugh don’t we Sandy! The problem with blogging I find is that once I sit down the time just flies and I could be there for hours. However, whatever helps to keep stress at bay has to be good. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your weekend. x
